An article written by Brigitte Bornemann, explains that Quadran Energies Marines (part of the Direct Energie group, the 3rd largest French electricity and gas distributor) has chosen Spanish EOLOS to conduct a wind and sea measurement campaign (12 months - starting in April 2018) for the future EolMed floating wind farm off Port la Nouvelle and Gruissan (Occitanie - France), which should be commissioned in 2020 with the German producer Senvion's 6.2M152 turbines. EOLOS will provide validated wind, wave and meteorological data collected on the EolMed website. The data collected will help optimize the location of wind turbines in the concession area, as well as the design of floating foundations. It will also reduce uncertainty about wind energy potential and increase the bankability of development as it progresses towards the Final Investment Decision (FID), which is expected to be taken in 2019. EOLOS estimates that project developers can reduce wind measurement costs by ten times compared to conventional mast installations. EOLOS Floating Lidar Solutions offers EOLOS FLS200, a validated float buoy that uses ZephIR 300M LiDAR technology to collect high quality wind and ocean data from any offshore location. It allows windmill planners to measure wind at altitudes above 200 meters above sea level and calculate wave and current movements up to 300 meters deep.
