First battery for offshore wind installed in Scotland

It is located 25 kilometers off the coast of Peterhead

The Norwegian offshore wind developer Equinor has installed the world’s first battery for offshore wind, at its Hywind Scotland floating offshore wind farm located 25 kilometers off the coast of Peterhead. Electricity produced will be transported via cables to an onshore substation where the 1MW batteries are placed and connected to the grid. This technological solution is an answer to one of the biggest challenges of wind energy technologies: the storage of the produced energy.
farm. Equinor estimates that the battery capacity is the equivalent of more than 128,000 iPhones and that the Batwind storage solution works, in many respects, like an energy warehouse.
