Maestrale at European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW)

Presented during Energy Fair

The sustainable use of marine energies is one of the most promising frontiers of blue growth development in Europe. At the EUSEW Energy Fair, the Interreg MED Maestrale project will show how many ways of exploitation of marine energy are feasible in the Mediterranean basin. A big poster showing the 7 most advanced Blue Energy technologies will be set up and illustrated by the Maestrale team.

A running video showing these technologies at work on several energy plants in Europe will be provided, together with short videoclips showing interviews to the main actors in the field. We are going to describe in detail our awareness raising initiatives, in particular we will introduce our successful initiatives involving the students from schools in Italy and Spain.

We are going to ask visitors to compile a questionnaire on Blue Energies to verify their knowledge of the topic, possibly working in groups; then we will debate on unclear aspects and give groups a better insight of Blue Energy issues, with the help of ppt presentations. We will introduce the Maestrale Geodatabase, a web application which shows the Blue Energy potential of the Mediterranean area, with real time data on marine currents, waves, winds, tides, temperature, etc. , the localization of existing BE plants and the stakeholders’ map.

We will give an extended overview of the 20 pilot initiatives realized by Maestrale partners in 8 European countries, showing also how the different legislative frameworks may affect the technological choices related to BE plants in different countries. We will introduce the Maestrale training programme on Blue Energies, specifically designed for young entrepreneurs willing to enter the field of sustainable marine energy exploitation.
